DEEP SOIL INJECTION (DSI)
A COMPREHENSIVE SOLUTION FOR SINKING CONCRETE, ASPHALT, AND GRAVEL
When outdoor surfaces like concrete, asphalt, or gravel begin to sink, it’s often a sign of underlying soil issues. Weak or eroded subgrades fail to provide the necessary support, causing the surface above to settle. At PURLIFT®, we offer Deep Soil Injection (DSI)—an advanced method that strengthens subgrade soils while simultaneously lifting and levelling the surface above.
DSI uses high-density expanding foam injected deep into the ground to repair weak soils and increase their load-bearing capacity. This eco-friendly process addresses the root cause of settlement while restoring surface integrity, making it an ideal solution for a variety of applications.

WHAT IS DEEP SOIL INJECTION (DSI)?
DSI involves injecting polyurethane foam deep into the soil to stabilize weak or compromised subgrades. The foam expands upon injection, binding loose soils, filling voids, and permanently displacing collected water. As a result, the subgrade is strengthened, and the surface above—whether concrete, asphalt, or gravel—can be lifted and levelled within the same process.
This technique is especially effective for infrastructure such as:
-
Roads and Highways (asphalt)
-
Railroads (gravel)
-
Rural Roads (gravel/dirt)
-
Bridges (asphalt/concrete)
-
Industrial and Commercial Foundations
HOW DEEP SOIL INJECTION WORKS
1
SITE EVALUATION
The process begins with a thorough visual assessment of the problem areas.
2
DYNAMIC CONE PENETRATION (DCP) TEST
A reliable field test used to assess soil strength and compaction by measuring resistance to penetration, providing quick and accurate data for geotechnical analysis. This ensures precise placement and accurate foam volumes for the injection.
3
FOAM INJECTION
High-strength polyurethane foam is injected deep into the ground through small injection points. The foam follows the path of least resistance, filling voids, fissures, and weak soil zones.
4
SURFACE LIFT AND STABILIZATION
As the foam expands, it improves the soil’s load-bearing capacity and lifts the surface above, restoring its original level.
5
POST-PROJECT TESTING
Soil testing can be conducted after the injection to verify the achieved results, ensuring long-term stability.

ADVANTAGES OF DEEP SOIL INJECTION
-
Stabilizes Soils: Reinforces weak subgrades, creating a stronger foundation for structures and surfaces.
-
Simultaneous Lifting: Repairs unstable soils while lifting and levelling the surface.
-
Void Filling: Fills fissures, ground voids, and displaces water permanently.
-
Eco-Friendly: Foam does not leach chemicals and is safe for the environment.
-
Permanent Solution: Foam retains its shape and does not absorb groundwater.
-
Improves Load-Bearing Capacity: Ensures long-term durability for heavy traffic areas.
-
Minimally Invasive: Requires only small injection points, minimizing surface disruption.
-
Customizable Application: Can be tailored to specific soil conditions and surface types.
APPLICATIONS OF DEEP SOIL INJECTION
DSI can address common problem areas caused by soil disruption, such as:
-
Infrastructure Settling: Weak soils created during construction or by water main installations/removals.
-
Foundation Weakness: Disturbed soil within four feet of newly constructed buildings or houses.
-
Erosion Control: DSI mimics tree roots by binding soil particles together, reducing erosion.
-
Drainage Issues: Fills voids holding water, improving drainage and preventing further settlement.

DEEP SOIL INJECTION FOR ASPHALT SURFACES
Sinking asphalt is often caused by shifting or eroded subgrades. Left untreated, these issues can lead to dangerous safety hazards, increased wear and tear, and costly repairs. DSI offers a fast, effective solution to stabilize asphalt surfaces, ensuring long-lasting results.
